Exploring the Ragged Edge of Science and Design

Inspired by the insights from Robert Dijkgraaf, I went looking for the ‘ragged edge of science’ to discover what design is. That’s why I chose a course at the WDKA – Bring the building to life – augmented reality. And as I sat on the classroom floor on a warm Tuesday evening making a stop-motion film that would then be connected to a trigger image to become an “augmented reality,” the ragged edge of science became apparent to me. Don’t just read and think about it, but also EXPERIENCE it. Of course I should stay modest about this moment of creating. But the most important thing is that it allowed me to experience the ‘creation process’ – encountering problems with the implementation and solving them, and sitting uncomfortably on the floor but ignoring it because you want to finish something the way you conceived it.
